I recently received an email from someone who sends me work but with whom I've never really interacted with one-on-one. She sends me work via email and I know her name and where she works and that's about it which is a good thing because if there were any problems with her work, this anonymity would be out the window.
On Monday, I was one of several people that she emailed a form to in order for us to review our interactions with her over the past year. My initial reaction was surprise to have received this request since our paths may have crossed only once or twice, otherwise I am just the anonymous processor of their departmental fiscal activity. Should I not fill it out or just lie? After that wore off, I immediately felt sorry for her. I know how it is when the boss surprises you with requiring a peer evaluation about your customer service skills in order to figure out how much of a raise you should get for the next fiscal year.
With that in mind, I filled out the form in a slightly different fashion. Since we've rarely interacted, I just thought of all the problem people that I know of and wrote her review as the opposite. For Interpersonal Communication, I gave her a P for Proficient and included that she always returned any errors quickly and pleasantly (again, I'm not sure if she did but I just know that she's not one of my problem children), for the section on if her work meets my expectations, I gave her a P and added something along the same lines and included that when directions are updated, she is always on top of the changes (again, I don't know if she is but she doesn't stand out in my memory as one of the troublemakers), for Judgement, she got a P since I'm not completely positive that she has ever sent someone's personal information such as Social Security numbers and checking account information. For Reliability, she received another P and a comment about how everything is sent on time.
The sections that I skipped (which was allowable) because I couldn't find some bit of applicable truth was Overall Contribution to the Organization, Teamwork and Critical Thinking Skills.
I sent the finished product to her and the person who must be her supervisor and in return, the peer sent me an email thanking me. I'm glad I found a way to write her review and do a good deed and it didn't require blatant falsehoods.

I remember having to do those things once upon a time. I'm glad I don't have to now!
I thought about seeing if you would do my review, then realized what I was thinking...
