I had the opportunity to plug in good ol'Charlotte and hit the road with her again yesterday, just the two of us. The first time since my trip to Cincinnati to see George Strait in late May. This trip was also into the land of a plant that looks like pot but are called "buckeyes" and into a much more dangerous territory for a Wolverine than Cincinnati - Columbus.

A friend that normally lives much further away was in Columbus for work so I drove down yesterday to visit and hang out for a day. It was nearly a straight shot from home to Columbus so Charlotte did very little talking during the 3 hour drive but she was still a pleasure to travel with and came in quite handy in getting us to the Germantown section of Columbus, a park, and finding such area restaurants as Bob Evans.
Below are some pictures from our journey.
Charlotte and I heading out.
The view at about 30 minutes into the trip. The fog was really thick in spots and reminded me of the news stories of 30 car pileups. Needless to say, while the flatness and boring landscape would have been the perfect opportunity to use cruise control, I did not until it cleared up which was about the Toledo, Ohio area. Unfortunately the flatness and boring landscape lasted for about 2.25 hours of the 3 hour trip but Sunday morning is the best time to travel. I must've beaten all the other heathens out.

Why speaking of Ohio, here's the border. My dream someday when I win the lottery is to build more elaborate signs over the expressway when entering another state. It should be an exciting thing, not something one can miss when changing the radio stations as they fade out. Indiana had a great one coming back from Chicago. I think that was on I-94. Went across the whole expressway. Brilliant!

Downtown Columbus from North Bank Park. Beautiful day. Tad too warm for the turtleneck I had one but darn it, it's November. It should not be near 70.

This is the Santa Maria. It took me a few minutes to wonder about the connection between a wooden boat and a big city that is the capital of Ohio but then the friend pointed it out and I had the light bulb moment..."Oh yeah...Christopher Columbus...we're in Columbus".

I kind of petered out on the photos so this is me and Charlotte heading home this morning after a late morning pick up of Chick-fil-a chicken sandwiches for Big A. They survived the 3 hour trip home...and the next 1.5 hours until he was home. We'll see how the ingesting of 4.5 hour old chicken sandwiches fares as well.
Aaaah....home.

For some reason, this reminded me of something I'd post ;)
Glad you and Charlotte had a good trip south! Did you get to hear any accents?
I am often tempted to throw the GPS out the window when I decide I want to go a different way... I am disappointed that you didn't show us a photo of you and your red turtleneck :)
And, the drive from Toledo to Columbus is about as boring as they come--the only one worst (and flatter) is from Toledo to Cleveland
Did you go to another concert?

Me too!!!!
At the very least, I yell at her.
TC - No! Not even a faux German one at the German restaurant. My friend noticed the Midwest accent but I guess my accent blended in with theirs because I didn't notice anything new and exciting.
Sage - It was pink! :-)
Sage & TC - I must have a different one. Charlotte is quite open to going a new way and 'recalculating'. As I told TC when she was talking about hers, I wish there was a 'bypass ghetto' option because in the past, some of Charlotte's recalculations have been dubious.
Sotamies - A concert was mentioned but the only one on Sunday night was Styx with REO Speedwagon. No thanks! :-)
I didn't know until most recently that I could mute my British Chick when I decided to go a different way, especially in a situation where it may take her a few miles to recalculate to the way I'm heading and not making a u-turn at my earliest convenience. I've also learned to love the detour button which I frequently use in big unfamiliar cities in which the way I want to go is blocked by road construction and I have no earthly idea which way I need to go to get back on track.
This reminds me of something TC would post.
I noticed in the first pic that Charlotte says the speed limit is 35 while the speed limit sign clearly says 25. I wonder if the GPS defense holds up with a police officer.
What is Pure Michigan? Is there also an Amalgamted Michigan, or did their used to be?
Hey, "Can't Fight This Feeling" is a power ballad classic! Some of your readers probably even have it on their iTunes.
Bone - I was so bored on that drive that I tested that speed limit discrepancy and Charlotte seems to know when I've passed a speed limit sign and adjusts accordingly. Prior to that 25 mph sign, it was 35. It's magic!
It seems that the only thing that the Michigan tourism industry can promote nowadays are virgins and the salt-free Great Lakes. Maybe one day we can expand again.
I too own some REO songs on iTunes. No Styx though. 3 hours of both might be more than even I could handle especially now that the REO singer has gotten rid of his afro. :-)
