If you didn't see this commercial during the Super Bowl, take a moment to watch it and then we'll talk afterwards.
Post video watching commentary
The next day, Facebook was abuzz with people coming out of the woodwork about how this commercial makes them proud to be from Detroit. Hello? You're from the suburbs! Also, I find it funny when people talk about this video and Chrysler and seem to forget that Chrysler is owned by an Italian company despite including them when referencing 'The Big Three'. Chrysler hasn't been what the hardcore union autoworkers would call an American car (i.e., the profits stay in the U.S.) since Daimler bought it. Does that mean that it's o.k. for the profits to go to Germany or Italy but not to Japan which is always their retort about why Americans shouldn't buy Toyotas or Hondas even though they are built in this country?
I really can't wait until Fiat gets their models built and on the roads here and what the hardcore 'Buy American' believing folks will think then.

Detroit is certainly symbolic of the American auto industry, and by extension, American manufacturing. Somehow I wonder if the irony which you point out was lost on the producers of the commercial. If not, it certainly was missed by many, if not most, of the viewers.
Cheers.
Actually, it was nice to see all the car companies advertising in the Superbowl.
And to think all I got from watching that commercial during the Superbowl was thinking that Em looked pretty strung out on drugs. I forgot about Daimler connection but then, I don't buy American when it comes to vehicles. The last new vehicle I bought was Japanese and made in Alabama.
Ed - That's funny. I thought maybe his contacts were irritating his eyes. I guess we can tell who the optimistic person is. ;-)
I'm pretty sure that Daimler (Germany) also has a piece of Chrysler.
And Marshall Mathers isn't even from Detroit, either. The whole thing is disingenuous in several ways.
Kind of sad for a company that used to make some of the best ever muscle cars.
