Earlier this week, the head cold that I have became so bad that I lost all sense of taste. On Tuesday for dinner, I had Totino's pizza rolls. I haven't had these in ages but they were on sale last week so I picked up a bag. Normally, I salt these (I salt a lot of things but that's for another blog and save the lecture about processed foods already having more than enough sodium in them. I need it on the outside, not cooked into it) so after they came out of the oven, I sprinkled a bit of that sodium goodness on to each little pizza roll. After they cooled a bit and I could eat it, it was an odd experience to have to revert back to memories for what it tastes like. Also, even though I couldn't taste the salt, I was pretty sure that it needed more. I didn't add more because at that point, the whole idea of eating when you can't taste anything didn't make much sense to me personally (the grumbling stomach thought otherwise) and to add more salt to it would have only opened myself up to ridicule but it still astounded me that even though I couldn't taste it, I just knew there wasn't enough salt on them. My friend always rolls her eyes at me and at her husband when we reach for the salt shaker. I tell her that after 36 years, he and I know exactly what will need additional salt without having to even taste it. The list includes:
* Chinese food
* pasta
* watermelon
* hard-boiled eggs
* radishes
and more....

You would never survive a visit to my house where a salt shaker is nothing but a dream. I don't even own one. I'm a natural food tasting kind of guy.
I'm like Ed, but you might do good down south, my mom use to always worry about me because I never add salt to anything (I only use salt in baking and in my own barbeque sauce). She'd ask over and over if I didn't think something needed more salt--she stopped when I pointed out that I was the only one in the family not on blood pressure medicine--but lately she's forgotten that too and keep asking if I didn't want more salt... Now you've gotten your lecture :)
are you on vacation again?
I wish. :-)
You said "I lost all sense of taste."
That would explain the eye-shocking red background on your blog. Time for new colors...
I think your blog is plenty salty.
