My brother is 4 years older so we were never in high school together but he did have friends a year younger that were still there. One in particular was named Chad. They weren't buddy buddies but their paths crossed a lot during their 3 years of high school together not to mention their stint in high school sports. Throughout most of my Freshman year, I had a huge crush on Chad. Obviously being a 14 year old with a mouth full of metal and a penchant for Bill the Cat t-shirts and black Chuck Taylor hi-tops I had absolutely no chance with this guy who ran with the popular crowd, was in the choir, played football and was on the student government and high school newspaper staff. I was quite content to admire from afar but somehow he got wind of my crush (I think it might have been at a party that he and my brother both happened to be at). He began saying hi to me the few times I would run into him (the seniors had their lockers on the main level while everyone else was in the basement) and then the moment that I wish I could do over happened.
At a dance near the end of the school year, he came up to me and asked me if I was Patrick's sister. I admitted to it and then we chit chatted for a few minutes before he asked if I wanted to dance...TO A SLOW SONG no less. Me and all my metal mouth/relatively unplucked eyebrowness (at that time) was about to be about a foot away from him. It was the most unbelievable moment in all those previous 14 years (and I'm sure it is written in my journal that I still have from that time) and it still holds a fond memory for me even now despite wishing that the me that is comfortable with myself (for the most part) now could have been that girl that took his invitation in stride and had been cool, calm, collected and a tad bit flirty.
I asked my brother if he knew what Chad was up to nowadays and he said that last he heard after high school he had entered the military. I'm sure Chad doesn't remember the awkward 14 year old girl who was the sister of a friend but those 3 minutes continue to rank high in my favorite high school memories (although don't ask me what song it was that we danced to. I had a completely out of body experience from the moment of him coming up to talk to me until about Wednesday of the following week).

LOL That was good. This reminds me of the time I made out with a girl in a gazebo at the park, then never saw her again. My version of a one-night stand.
Good grief, what was Bone doing before?
This was adorable.
And made me cringe, thinking of the crushes I used to have on my brother's friends. Oh, how glad I am those days are over.
I had some issues, alright?
It makes me wonder what he REALLY wanted to say. And Bone, you owe me 3 more comments because when I saw that I had 6, I got giddy because I never had that many only a few short hours after a blog has been posted. ;-)
I had to check the Murf Historical Records and the date wasn't quite right. This was at the Homecoming Dance in 1985 when I was a Freshman and he was a *sigh* Senior. I then proceeded to keep reading all the gory details of that "relationship" in my journal. Good grief. I had no game then (although I don't think I ever had game..so maybe not having a game was my game?). It was embarrassing to read but yet adorable in its pure, virginal form. Once you throw sex in the mix, things get a little less sweet.
Just give me a name Murf and I'll track him down for yah!
Ed - I hadn't even thought of that. Email heading your way in tminus 9 seconds...
So, what happened on Thursday of the following week? Nice story, btw!
Bone: I just hope those are all the issues you have going on. :-)
Murf: I'm scared to reread some of my old journals. You're way braver than I am.
