Big Brother

I just got back from a fabulous dinner with my older brother. He lives in Texas but his job currently has him in Michigan 3 weeks out of the 4 every month so seeing him isn't quite the rarity as it once was. The dynamic is always different when it's one-on-one than when we are all together so to get them alone is always an interesting treat.

It's funny that despite the 4 year age difference, the fact that I remember vividly him calling my butt fat when I was 13, and that he now lives far away compared to my younger brother who is just 30 minutes down the road, I feel closest to him. I guess it helps that he's a bit more talkative or maybe it's whatever reason that made my college friend Robin tell me that she was envious because she always wished for an older brother. It must be one of those things that you think about because you don't have it. I have sometimes wondered what it was like to have a sister. Shortly after my mom died, I remember thinking that now I was the lone female and I would be surrounded by the guys and their burping and other bodily noises. I don't know why that bothered me then. I don't think I've heard my brothers bodily noises in years but still that idea of it bothered me.

I will never know what it is like to have a sister and while I sometimes wonder what girly things I have missed out on, I'm o.k. with that especially when you have an older brother that thanks your mom for having her shortly after she was born.

Cute photo. It's funny how our relationships with siblings change as we get older. Glad you get to spend time with your Big Brother and I wonder how many folks will come here via google looking for diatribes against that other "big brother?"

My relationship with my little brother has never been closer since he lives in Alabama. Must be a distance thing.

Sage - Or the TV show by the same name.

Ed - It must be because all you can do is talk. It's not like you can call him up and just sit there, breathing into the phone. Well, I've experienced some calls like that but I don't think they were from him.

I was really thankful this wasn't a post about a reality TV show.

I wonder what my sister would write about me if she blogged. Obviously there are no embarrassing stories she could tell.

Wow you're blogging even less often than I am. What's up with that?
