Over the past few months as my classes wind down and I begin a countrywide search for a technical writing job, Big A and I have discussed where we would like to move. Here are some of the wheres and whys:
- Nashville, TN area because his sister lives there. I like her and country music.
- Dallas, TX area because my brother lives there. Big A likes BBQ.
- Tempe, AZ because I've always liked that city the few times I've visited although Big A isn't keen on the hot summers.
- Santa Fe or Albuquerque for the desert enjoyment but similar drawbacks. Plus, I have a hard time spelling Albuquerque.
- Raleigh, NC because there are large groups of people who play Big A's miniature men game. I love the accents.
- Wyoming or Montana. Big A wants to live in the middle of 50 acres and not have any neighbors. I'm still trying to find something good about living here.
- Greater Des Moines, IA area so that Big A can go to the last true state fair with animals every year. Perhaps we could live between there and Fairfield and I can shovel Ed's driveway after every snow.
- Anywhere in Canada for political and health care reasons.
It's interesting that we have these places picked out and we talk about it when we're just hanging out at home but yet when we go to the nearby section of town called Depot Town for a great pizza, hamburger or calzone or go to one of the many festivals like Elvisfest, we'd really miss things like that. Maybe in the end, it's all talk and we will just stay in our Crayola house in a town of 25,000 in which none of my relatives want to come to for a visit and be content.

I kind of like Big A's suggestion of living in the middle of 50 acres without neighbors. But if I had to choose a city to live in, Des Moines would be high on my list. Not because I'm partial to Iowa but because it has all the big city ammenities in a small package. You can still get out of town in fifteen minutes and be in the middle of no where.
P.S. There is a house right next door for sale. That way you could still be close to a Lawn Nazi and better yet, downwind of my leaf filled lawn!
Beware of a burning bag of dog poop on your porch.
I like Big A idea of Montana/Wyoming... Don't move to Texas for the barbecue--if that's what you want, move to Raleigh and drive over to Smithfield.
Personally, I think Missouri has some of the best barbecue around. I can't vouch for North Carolina but it is certainly better than Texas.
Smithfield? Do they also make ham there?
What? Not thinking about Mississippi?!?
Murf, That's Smithfield VA. There use to be a good place there for eastern NC bbq.
