Another way humanity gives me a headache

I've recently discovered a rather disturbing type of individual: people who offer to write letters of recommendation but then leave it up to you to badger them until they do it. If they wanted to write it, shouldn't they be eager to do so and do it within a week or so? I'm not a badger-er which may come to haunt me in a job search where you have to be so this has been kind of difficult and more than a bit disappointing.

Thankfully, I can always revise Sage's grad school recommendation should I need an additional one (and I haven't used the term 'Babe' since then, thankfully. I'm pretty sure I remember who I was mocking while doing so).

I wonder what new things about you that I need to include in an updated reference letter!

Reference letters are never used in my profession. Another thing to give thanks for in a few weeks.

Sage - I wonder too. Perhaps you should give it a shot.

Ed - I can't see how they would be used much in any profession not to mention the whole portfolio in general but I'm all for getting people to type out who great I am. :-)

In today's world, why don't they just ask for phone numbers or email addresses of previous employers? When I hired on this place, they did ask for a phone number but according to my former boss, they never called him. I guess they were just bluffing.

That's another thing I don't get. A lot of people are only allowed to say 'Yes, this person worked here' and not much more. What good are references anyway?
