While the snow is finally letting up and before I go out for the second time to shovel, I thought I would catch up on some bills. Most I do online but there are a few that I have that don't allow for online one-time payment so I do it the old school way which I don't mind because I have cute checks and this time of year, use my cute address labels that have the characters from the Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer TV show. These cute address labels have actually turned into the bane of my existence every Christmas.
The first Christmas after I got married, I thought to myself "Self, I should get some address labels with our name on it so that everyone will know what it is and how to spell it." I found the Rudolph ones online and ordered a bazillion sheets of it with our name appearing as "The + the pluralized version of our last name" and then the address instead of "Murf and Big A" plus the last name and then the address. I guess I thought my Christmas card recipients were smarter than they actually are. We still get a handful of cards addressed to Murf and Big A plus the pluralized version of our last name. If I received a card from "The Abbeys", I know that their name is not Abbeys, it's Abbey and it's plural because there is more than one Abbey...or maybe I am just unusually smart.
So as I use these address labels on my bills for this month, I still can't help but shake my head at these people while wondering after nearly 5 years, is it too late to tell them that they've been spelling the name wrong? But then I think of my uncle who recently mailed me some documents on networking for jobs and he addressed it using my maiden name. It may just be hopeless.

with a computer and labels, it's easy to design your own labels, spelling things however you want to spell them... I still haven't finished my Christmas cards (I seldom finish before Christmas)!
I haven't sent any out and probably won't this year. Big A is busting my chops about it too. He's such a girl. :-)
We have ours all sent out and just finished up our Christmas goodies for those in town friends that we have. I felt bad that we were so far behind but now I feel much better. Thanks Murf and Sage.
Sincerely,
The Abbeys
P.S. My word verification was "exormal" which probably should be a word. It has a ring to it.
It sounds like "uncle" may need to read his own networking documents.
In honor of Al Gore I have gone green this Christmas and we aren't sending out any Christmas cards made from murdered trees. I can't explain why I haven't sent any out during the previous 45 years. Maybe I was just green before it was cool to be green.
Ed - Christmas goodies for in town friends?! I knew I should've bought that house down the street from yours although I would wager you would be like the neighbor on the TV show 'Home Improvement' and constantly half hidden so I would never see what you looked like.
K.S. - You could always send them electronically, you know. ;-)
