Speaking of the devil

Depending on your view of Joel Osteen perhaps not literally the devil but after a quick reference about him in Friday's entry, I was pleasantly surprised to see an article about him in my current issue of People. When trying to find the story online to share here for all to read, I discovered this article about how People magazine in Texas has him as the cover boy while the rest of us get "chubby" Jennifer Love Hewitt. It's an interesting article although it doesn't delve into his church or how it got to be as big as it is (weekly attendance is 47,000). When asked if a man so obviously rich be a man of God at the same time and does it bother him to see people less fortunate, he says that he's not sure if it bothers him but he does think God wants us all to be blessed. This reminded me of a religious zealot of an ex-coworker who would say things that God wanted her to apply for a job. When she didn't get it, she said that God must not have wanted her to have that job. I found that quite entertaining but I was polite and didn't ask her why he would want her to apply for it in the first place if he didn't want her to have it or does the fact that perhaps she wasn't qualified for it have more to do with it rather than God. She has since been fired from her job.

I know a few people like that too. God must be a really busy man to be doing such mundane management of personal affairs for so many people.
