Friday night

Friday was the SIL's birthday so after all the in-laws went to dinner nearby, they stopped by for cake. Near the end of the cake eating and as they were getting ready to leave, my neighbor across the street came by and said that filming was beginning a few blocks away. I thought I'd be original and take Hooch with me since I knew Drew loved dogs and headed over there with them. Bad move. Looks like there are quite a few other People magazine readers in the neighborhood who showed up with their dogs or they were using them for the innocent "Oh, I was just walking the dog...what in heavens name is going on here?" move. Hooch decided then to emit a few barks which brought over someone in a headset to let us know that filming was about to start and all dogs would have to leave. Eventually they would be doing exterior filming which means everyone would need to go back further. I ended up just going home at that point but from what I gather from neighbors who were done there until 10:30 that evening, not much was still going on.

It now looks like they have packed up and have moved on. I'm not a movie director but I hear that this movie was scheduled to be filmed near Austin, Texas where the movie is also set. It seems like a waste of money to travel this far for a certain look you want to your movie and only shoot for 3 days while the rest of the time it is in a studio in Detroit. Maybe it will all become clear once I've seen the movie. Until then, I think my city should adopt a slogan: Ypsilanti - It's like Austin but with a tax credit.

I expect Austin has plenty of tax credits too. Sorry that Hooch missed out his chance to be the 21 century Lassie.

How about Ypsilanti - Less Twang and Even Lesser Mosquitoes Than Austin?
