Question of the Day

You are in the right-hand lane of a multi-lane freeway. You are nearing your exit. Do you use your turn signal?

Yes... Now a new question, which turn signal do you use, left or right?

By law and in habit... yes.

Sage - Who uses their left turn signal for a right-handed exit?!? Bad experience in Mexico? :-)

Ed - Is it really a law that you have to signal as you are heading off of the expressway?

Welcome back to the both of you, by the way. The Holy Ghost missed the Father and Son. The trifecta is now back together.

MICHIGAN VEHICLE CODE (EXCERPT)
Act 300 of 1949

257.648 Signals for stopping or turning; violation as civil infraction.

Sec. 648.

(1) The driver of a vehicle or bicycle upon a highway, before stopping or turning from a direct line, shall first see that the stopping or turning can be made in safety and shall give a signal as required in this section.

I think exiting a freeway to a ramp would be deviating from a direct line.

I use my blinker in a parking lot. What do you think I'd do in this situation?

Ed - It's not really turning though. Deviating, perhaps but there is nothing about deviating.

TC - Hmmm...are you signaling to inform the person coming the other way that the spot is yours?
