A 58-year-old man was found dead in the center of the IU Arboretum by Indiana University police Sunday evening.
According to IU Lt. Jerry Minger, IU police received a call that a man was lying in the arboretum at 8:47 p.m. Officers arrived on the scene soon after to find the 58-year-old man was not breathing. Police and emergency medical technicians used CPR to try to revive the man, but were unsuccessful.
Monroe County Coroner George Huntington was on the scene, but no cause of death had been determined by 10:30 p.m. Sunday.
Minger said police do not suspect foul play in the man's death.
Because the man's family had not yet been notified of his death, Minger said his name could not be released.
The man's family that is mentioned in this article was my family. There was a subsequent article that named him (albeit incorrectly) and included the fact that it was indeed not foul play. This was 10 years ago today.

I've often thought of good places to "go" but have never thought of an arboretum. Most of my places are out in the wilderness on a starry night but an arboretum sounds like a nice peaceful place to "check out" too.
It's good that you got a number of years to know your father before he died.
Ed - We went to see the spot a few weeks later and it was very pretty. I'm not sure if he would have picked that though since it wasn't quite his style. I would have guessed bowling alley or UM's football stadium. :-)
