This past Saturday was the big dorm move-in day at my alma mater. In honour of the 19 years since I was a part of that crowd, here are some scenes from that year:
This is my roommate Andrea and my suitemate Cassie. Yes, this was our room. Please note the rather archaic telephone. This was before the popularity of cell phones. The whole thing rotated between the two rooms.
This is wrestler Bob from across the hall "posing" on my grandmother's davenport. Does anyone still use that term anymore?
Here's wrestler Bob and Scott doing what two heterosexual 18 year old males do when posing for a camera - pretend to not be straight. Again on my grandmother's davenport.
These are my suitemates Amy and Cassie with a rather scary looking roommate Andrea. Surprisingly, I think this was bar night for Andrea while Amy, the usual bar lush, was just hanging out in the room that night.
This is Amy the morning after one of her bar nights. Back in those days, bar nights were Thursday - Sunday and sometimes Monday or Tuesday. She did end up graduating on time though.
The view from our window. That window across the way is circled only because I knew the people in it. Living in a place that faced another dorm was a bit like the movie, 'Rear Window'.
This is the bathroom that the four of us shared which connected both of our rooms. Just to the left is the toilet followed by two sinks and the shower stall. It was here, while Amy was doing her hair in which I learned one of the many things that freshman year...I cannot poo while someone else is in the same room even if there is a shower curtain which gives privacy to the toilet area.
This is the view of our room as you enter it. To the left are the bunk beds (I was on top). To the right are the dressers followed by our desks and straight ahead, the infamous davenport.

I miss a lot of things from my youth but I don't miss dorm rooms.
I got lucky and had decent roommates all two years of dorm life.
Off topic...has anyone noticed that I've posted something all week, last week? I think this is the first in awhile.
I only lived in a dorm for one year, but I had a private room... I spent a number of years sharing apartments with other students... sometime maybe I should write a post about that
btw, I've notice you are posting more!
You should post that and if possible, track down the old roommates and make them tell their side of the story! :-)
